Detective: Midtown shooting suspect said, “It was just that time”

By Marcus K. Garner

Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Images of a Midtown office building and parking deck just before a deadly 2011 lunchtime shooting played Tuesday for jurors in the murder trial of Nkosi Thandiwe.

Investigators testified in Fulton County Superior Court that Thandiwe acknowledged to a co-worker what he did in a phone call hours after the incident. The former security guard is accused of fatally shooting Brittney Watts before taking her car and speeding away from the Proscenium parking deck in a hail of bullets that left Lauren Garcia paralyzed and Tiffany Ferenczy injured.

Atlanta police homicide detective Brett Zimbrick interviewed Allied Barton worker Joanne Brothers and had her call Thandiwe.

“He called back,” Zimbrick told the jury, noting that Brothers put the call on speaker so that the detective could hear.

From the witness stand, Zimbrick repeated what he heard:

“What have you done?” Brothers asked.

“Didn’t the police tell you?” Thandiwe replied.

“Why did you do it?” she asked him.

“It was just that time,” Thandiwe answered.

Racist defendant Nkosi Thandiwe entering the courtroom on Day 1 of his trial with a respectable trial haircut and scholarly trial eyeglasses, provided to him by his public defenders. Although Thandiwe comes from a wealthy, well-connected, privileged family, he jettisoned two sets of private defenders, and is content instead to leech off of the white net taxpayers.

As prosecutors played footage collected from Atlanta’s police video network and from the Proscenium’s security staff – the same footage Thandiwe was supposed to be monitoring that day for the Midtown building’s hired security – the videos showed the events of July 15, 2011.

With a time stamp of just before noon on that day, the traffic camera at the corner of Crescent Street and 14th Street, which is operated by private security firm Midtown Blue and shared with Atlanta police, captured an image of Watts leaving the building where she worked and crossing Crescent to the parking deck.

Atlanta police homicide detective David Coleman confirmed Watts’ identity as the video played, then pointed out Thandiwe, about a quarter of a mile away from her on the sidewalk at the opposite end of the parking deck.

“I determined that they had to have met inside the parking deck,” Coleman said.

Moments later, Coleman identified the group of women crossing Crescent in the video as including Garcia and Ferenczy, and the jury soon sees a black Toyota Prius burst from the parking garage as the women scatter and one falls to the ground.

Videos from Proscenium actually showed earlier scenes of Watts, in jeans and a plaid top with her laptop bag slung over her shoulder and carrying an umbrella, walking through the building lobby and later through the parking deck.

As the video played, sniffling could be heard from the courtroom as members of Watts’ family hugged closer to one another.

Donovan Yarbough, a manager with Allied Barton Security Services, who was Thandiwe’s supervisor that day, testified that Thandiwe had been monitoring the Proscenium videos earlier that morning and left duty roughly a half-hour before the shooting. “He took a lunch break around 11:30 (a.m.) that day,” Yarbough said.

The cameras that Thandiwe had been watching showed him, only minutes earlier than Watts, passing through the building lobby and crossing the street to the parking deck, then going upstairs and talking with someone before returning to ground level and loitering outside the vehicle exit to the garage.

Earlier Tuesday morning, the two surviving victims relived their horror from the shooting. “I heard a loud noise … and I just fell to the ground,” Garcia said from her wheelchair in front of the witness stand. “I couldn’t move my legs. I couldn’t walk. I couldn’t feel my legs.”

“I will never walk again,” said Garcia, who remains paralyzed from the waist down as a result of the shooting.

Tiffany Ferenczy told the jury she tried to run to the parking deck when she saw the driver of the Prius cut off another car then start shooting.

“I’m still recovering,” Ferenczy said, noting that she didn’t immediately realize she had been shot in the leg. The demure blonde wore a grey dress suit that revealed two dark penny-sized marks on the outside and back of her right calf.

Kara Bikoff, who was walking to lunch with Ferenczy and Garcia at the time of the shooting, testified that she saw the shooter’s gun “pointing directly at our group [of white and white-enough women].”

Late in Tuesday’s testimony, Fulton County’s Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Michelle Stauffenberg said the single shot that killed Watts entered the back of her neck, fracturing her vertebrae and severing her spinal cord.

“All of her motor functions would fail,” Stauffenberg said. “Once the bullet damages her spinal cord, her diaphragm stops working. She would’ve died in seconds.”

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Kelly A. Lee dismissed the jury shortly after 5 p.m., and testimony will resume Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.

Yesterday saw the first testimony, by surviving victim Lauren Garcia, in the trial of Nkosi Thandiwe for the racially-motivated spree that left Brittney Watts dead, Garcia maimed, and Tiffany Ferenczi wounded.

The media presented this as yet another “senseless” (read: motiveless) killing. It was as if Nkosi Thandiwe had, for no particular reason, walked over to the parking deck, turned and saw Brittney Watts sitting in her car and, for no possible reason, raised his arm. Then a gun, which had mysteriously placed itself in his hand, “went off,” “randomly” shooting Watts in the throat, killing her instantly, whereupon Thandiwe entered Mrs. Watts’ vehicle, pushing her out, driving away, and “randomly” shooting two other women. Shortly after Thandiwe’s arrest, which was elaborately orchestrated by his prominent defense attorney mother, he implicitly confessed to the crimes, by playing the “crazy card.” (If you’re innocent of a crime with which you’ve been charged, instead of gamesmanship and playing the crazy card, you simply plead straight up “not guilty.”)

This mope’s crazy, alright: Crazy like a fox! His defense attorneys at the time argued out of both sides of their mouths that Thandiwe was and was not temporarily insane, as a ploy to get the death penalty off the table. Why such gamesmanship, with or without the contradictions, would suffice to get the death penalty off the table is not logically explicable. Short answer: Forget it, Jake. It’s Atlanta.

Early on, an Atlanta source contacted me. This person had heard that Thandiwe had been sexually stalking Watts, using the monitors at his security console. He had seen her on the monitor coming down for lunch in the elevator, and rushed out to the parking deck ahead of her, where he knew she parked her car.

He would have to have been stalking her for days.

I contacted Thandiwe’s employer, Allied Barton Security, and spoke with an Allied Barton VP named Alan Stein, who sandbagged me. Stein didn’t even have the decency to give me a simple “no comment,” but instead played a game whereby he demanded that I apply for an interview, as if I were applying for a job, including my employer’s “credentials.” Was I supposed to send Stein Peter Brimelow’s Stanford MBA?

With time, it became apparent why Stein had nothing to say—he and Allied Barton Security Services had much to hide.

Comes the trial, and it turns out that there were wounds all over Watts’ body, at the very least from a man’s hands, a sharp object, and the killer’s gun. That means that her killer was in the car with her prior to murdering her, and devoted some time to brutalizing and torturing her, slashing her across the forehead and the stomach, and wounding her hips and wrists.

In other words, Mrs. Brittney Watts fought for her life…and her virtue.

Defense and prosecutorial teams gather at the bench for a sidebar

The only explanation for a woman having hips that were wounded by her killer would be if he had raped or attempted to rape her. Oddly enough, Fulton County prosecutors laid no charges that would follow from a woman’s hips being so wounded by her killer. Then again, Fulton County’s criminal justice system is run by corrupt, racist, black DA Paul Howard, with whom we are unfortunately all too familiar.

Another thing we’d learned since Thandiwe’s arrest (but had suspected from the get-go) was that there were three factors the media had covered up in this killing:

1. Race;

2. Race; and

3. Race.

After Thandiwe’s arrest, readers who claimed to be his friends presented a picture of him as a peace-loving Renaissance Man, and the media did nothing to dispel that image.

Eventually, it turned out that Nkosi Thandiwe was not only not a peace-loving man, he wasn’t even your run-of-the-mill black racist, which would merely put him in the company of 90 percent or so of America’s black residents. Rather, he is a bouncing-off-of-walls, openly violent black supremacist.

Although Thandiwe had been employed at the Proscenium Building by Allied Barton Security Services for roughly one year at the time that he allegedly murdered Brittney Watts, he had already committed at least two racist incidents, one of them including an act of violence. In one case, he’d reportedly attacked and hurled racial epithets at a sexless white delivery person, and had to be physically restrained by an Allied Barton colleague.

Last April, Mrs. Watts’ widower, Brian Watts, Lauren Garcia, and Tiffany Ferenczi all filed separate lawsuits against Allied Barton Security Services, ManuLife Financial Corp. and John Hancock Life Insurance Co., co-owners of the Proscenium building, charging the companies, worth billions, with negligence, alleging that they had all known of Thandiwe’s violent racism, prior to his murderous spree, and done nothing.

[Court filings] said Thandiwe demonstrated an intensely negative attitude toward another race, which was unnamed [?!]. About a month prior to the shooting, Thandiwe had an altercation with a visitor with the parking garage.

Documents state he assailed a visiting courier with racial epithets and had to be physically restrained by company personnel from striking and causing harm to visitors.

Company officials, lawyers and shooting victims declined to comment on the matter.

But attorney Musa Ghanayem, who is unaffiliated with the case, gave his legal perspective.

"I saw where there were a couple of instances prior where they have red flags come up; that Mr. Thandiwe has some issues as a security guard," Ghanayem said.

Thadiwe [sic] is still in Fulton County jail. His defense team has asked the court for a mental evaluation. According to documents found before the shooting, there was another act of violence, Huddleston reported.

Diversity is a double-edged sword: If a firm doesn’t hire unfit black, Hispanic, Moslem or homosexual workers, it gets sued for discrimination, but when it does hire them, they wreak havoc.

Had a white security guard committed such a hate crime against a black delivery person, not only would Allied Barton have fired him on the spot, but he would have immediately been arrested, jailed, and charged with a hate crime. Instead, Allied-Barton allegedly did nothing at all, and Thandiwe was not arrested, either. Meanwhile, had a white (or white-enough) security guard gone on a racially motivated murder spree, it would immediately have been promoted by the media around the world.

With apologies to Mrs. Watts’ widowed husband and family, what a juicy story we have here, yet no one in the MSM wants to tell it! Outside of Atlanta, the only people who have reported on this case are yours truly and Stuff Black People Don’t Like’s Paul Kersey. nbsp;

Atlanta: Black Trash Women Harass, Threaten, and Assault Black Security Guard, Using Their Future Felon Little Children as Weapons, Before Getting a Big Surprise

This phenomenon is not simply a matter of welfare/project trash. It’s a black thing, crossing all class lines. However, whatever evil blacks may seek to visit on other blacks is nothing, compared to what they feel entitled to inflict on whites and Asians.

In May, 2010, I was jumped in a Waldbaum’s in front of my son by a 20-year-old black female college student who had gone there with her toddler, whom she used as a prop, for the sole purpose of jumping a white customer. She was so confident that she would get away with it, that she did it in front of dozens of witnesses, right in front of the cash registers.

The difference between my story and the one in the video is that I’m white, and the security guard is black. In my case, two “respectable” middle-aged black women jumped up, as soon as the police showed up, and lied, saying I was the aggressor, so I got arrested. However, since the racist black attacker had scratched me bloody, they arrested her, too.

(Three middle-aged whites showed me sympathy, but none hung around to tell the cops what they had seen.)

While waiting for the cops to come (which I had demanded, since the attack had to be captured on camera), the racist black attacker bragged to everyone in the store that her brother was a cop. When the cops showed up, the supervisor was a black woman who insisted that none of the cameras trained on the cash registers was working.

At the precinct, the brother was permitted to enter the lock-up area, in violation of clearly stated regs, and confer with the attacker, next to my cell, while white precinct cops who treated me like dirt treated her like royalty.

The only mitigating factor was that due to the racist attacker’s juice, the precinct cops processed the papers and released us both in three hours, instead of taking us to Central Booking, where we wouldn’t have gotten out ‘til morning.

Coleman Blames “Bad Guys,” Begs for Leniency

Monstrously racist hate criminal Vanessa Coleman at her sentencing hearing after her first conviction, on May 13, 2010

By David in TN

[See: “The Knoxville Horror: The Crime and the Cover-Up.”]

The sentencing hearing for Vanessa Coleman after being convicted in her November retrial is set for Friday, February 1.

According to a pre-sentence investigative report by a State Probation Officer, Vanessa Coleman claims to have “beat the blues, kicked the drugs, cooled that temper and recognized the siren’s call of bad boys.”

The probation report is supposed to influence Judge Jon Kerry Blackwood, in determining the sentence for Coleman.

After her first trial, Coleman was sentenced to 53 years by stacking the sentences consecutively. The Jackson jury in her second trial found her not guilty on some lesser charges. She was convicted of 13 of 17 charges, including the main counts of facilitation of the rape and murder of Channon Christian.

Her attorneys are asking for leniency of about 20 years, with parole possible sooner. The prosecution is pushing for the maximum of nearly 50 years.

Vanessa Coleman claims to have seen the light and benifited from prison programs. Had she taken advantage of any one of several chances to open a door, Channon Christian would be alive today.

N.S.: Vanessa Coleman has never shown any remorse for what she did to Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom. Even in the pre-sentencing investigative report, the second time she has been convicted, her narcissism shows through. It’s all about her needs and feelings.

But she’s always been much worse than a narcissist.

In an early court hearing, in which her boyfriend-crime partner Letalvis Cobbins was also present, Coleman told Cobbins, “I love you,” as he passed her.

At Coleman’s original sentencing hearing, she smirked, and winked and waved at friends, relatives, and supporters in the courtroom.

People who have followed Coleman closely, and seen her in court, have told me that they are convinced that she was an active participant in the torture, rapes, and murders of Christian and Newsom. Whether or not that is the case, having read the transcripts of Coleman’s police interrogation, I know that her description of the situation was not only unbelievable (she claimed that through all of the torture, Channon Christian was never gagged, yet never screamed or cried out), but inhuman. Coleman would blithely talk of getting up in the morning, after the night of terror visited on the victims, including the gang-rape, torture and murder of Christopher Newsom, and cooking a hearty breakfast for her crime partners and herself. She described Christian, after a night and a day of rapes, beatings, and torture, just before Lemaricus Davidson would stuff her in a garbage can, where she would slowly asphyxiate, merely as wearing only a shirt.

The woman was so bloody and disfigured from head to toe that the Medical Examiners’ photographs of her body caused a female member of the prosecution team to faint in court, and strong men to weep openly, and avert their eyes from the worst.

And the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Coleman’s monstrously racist father, Greg, has depicted his daughter as a victim, just like Channon Christian, and sought to hang the murders on a white female, Daphne Sutton, who had had nothing to do with them.

By David in TN

What the Atlanta Journal-Constitution calls the “Midtown Shooting Trial” began on Tuesday in Fulton County Superior Court.

Lauren Garcia testified from her wheelchair, "I heard a loud noise...and just fell to the ground. I couldn't move my legs. I couldn't walk. I couldn't feel my legs." Garcia will never walk again, and is paralyzed from the waist down as a result of the July 15, 2011 shooting in midtown Atlanta.

Brittney Watts, 26, was killed.

Nkosi Thandiwe, the "alleged" shooter, was a security guard assigned to monitor the Crescent Street parking deck of the Proscenium Building. Thandiwe “allegedly” assaulted Watts in the garage, shot her and then stole her car and tried to escape.

Watts' injuries, according to prosecutor Linda Dunikoski, "went beyond" the fatal gunshot wounds to her neck. "She had bruises on both her wrists, bruises on both her hips, she had lacerations across her stomach," Dunikoski said.

Watts' forehead was also cut open and she had cuts on her back. The prosecution has yet to explain these other injuries.

Was it a sexual assault?

A third woman, Tiffany Ferenczy, was shot in the leg.

Dunikoski said the victims didn't know Thandiwe (important in this kind of trial, as we have seen), and he didn't know them. "Brittney Watts was just going to lunch," the prosecutor said. "Lauren Garcia and Tiffany Ferenczy did nothing but cross the street." The death penalty was never considered by the state.

General, the War is Over: Sore Winner Colin Powell is Still Sabotaging the GOP, by Demanding It Embrace Racial Socialism and Commit Political Suicide (Short title: General Colin Powell to America: Die, Whitey, Die!)

La Reyna writes: “Colin Powell states the Republican Party has a ‘dark vein of intolerance’! He’s right!”

GEN. POWELL: I think the Republican Party right now is having an identity problem. And I’m still a Republican. I’m a Republican who grew up along with George Bush 41. I grew up with Ronald Reagan, Cap Weinberger, Frank Carlucci, that Republican Party, the Republican Party of Dick Lugar and John Tower. But in recent years, there’s been a significant shift to the right and we have seen what that shift has produced, two losing presidential campaigns.

I think what the Republican Party needs to do now is take a very hard look at itself and understand that the country has changed. The country is changing demographically. And if the Republican Party does not change along with that demographic, they’re going to be in trouble. And so, when we see that in one more generation, the minorities of America, African-Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Asian Americans will be the majority of the country, you can’t go around saying we don’t want to have a solid immigration policy. We’re going to dismiss the 47 percent. We are going to make it hard for these minorities to vote as they did in the last election. [N.S.: That’s a bald-faced lie.]

What did that produce? The court struck most of that down and most importantly, it caused people to turn out and stand in line because these Republicans were trying to keep us from voting. [There he goes again!] There’s also a dark—a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the Party. [As opposed to the virulently racist party he has openly supported the past two elections, and clandestinely helped for many years before that?] What I do mean by that? I mean by that is they still sort of look down on minorities.

How can I evidence that? When I see a former governor say that the president is “shuckin’ and jivin,’” that’s a racial era slave term. When I see another former governor after the president’s first debate where he didn’t do very well, says that the president was “lazy.” He didn’t say he was slow, he was tired, he didn’t do well, he said he was “lazy.” Now, it may not mean anything to most Americans but to those of us who are African-Americans, the second word is “shiftless,” and then there’s a third word that goes along with it. Birther, the whole Birther Movement. Why do senior Republican leaders tolerate this kind of discussion within the Party?

[Powell has long demanded and gotten toleration for his own positions, which are completely at odds with the Party base, not to mention his support of “Obama,” yet he demands that loyal Republicans be silenced simply for being … loyal Republicans?]

I think the Party has to take a look at itself. It has to take a look at its responsibilities for health care. It has to take a look at immigration. It has to take a look at those less fortunate than us. The Party has gathered unto itself a reputation that it is the party of the rich. It is the party of lower taxes. But there are a lot of people who are lower down the food chain, the economic chain, who are also paying lots of taxes relative to their income and they need help. We need more education work being done in this country. We need a solid immigration policy. We have to look at climate change. There are a lot of things that the American people are expecting and the Republican Party, as they get ready for the next election, really has to focus on some of these issues and not ignore them.

Everybody wants to talk about who’s going to be the candidate. You better think first about what’s the party they’re actually going to represent. If it’s just going to represent the far right-wing of the political spectrum, I think the Party is in difficulty. I’m a moderate but I’m still a Republican, that’s how I was raised. And until I voted for Mr. Obama twice, I had voted for seven straight Republican presidents.

[Colin Powell to David Gregory, on Meet the Press, January 13, 2013. Transcript here.]
In German, “Gift” means poison, and Colin Powell is the Gift that keeps on giving. The influence of him and his ilk has been poisoning the GOP for generations, going back to Jackie Robinson. But unlike Powell and so many other black “Republicans,” at least Robinson was honest enough to write, “I admit freely that I think, live, and breathe black first and foremost.”

Powell was a failed affirmative action one-star general who received a terrible evaluation from his commander, Major General John Hudachek, that would have been a career-killer for a white officer. However, Ronald Reagan rescued Powell. Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and the latter’s son proceeded to turn a mediocrity into an AA superstar. One Republican leader after another shouted, “I’m color-blind,” with the perfectly reasonable expectation that each of his black clients would go back to the brothers and sisters, and tell them, “He said, ‘I love black people!’” Instead, Powell and the other clients—Ray Nagin, J.C. Watts, Condi Rice, Michael Steele, Armstrong Williams, John McWhorter, Debra Dickerson, et al.—have each shouted back at their benefactor, “You haven’t done nothin’!”

In 1996, the party was willing to make Powell its standard-bearer, which would likely have resulted in his being elected the country’s first black president, and a legal one, at that. But Mrs. Powell, an already high-strung woman, recoiled at the possibility of her husband being the nation’s first assassinated black president, and made the General stay out of the race.

The Party then further honored the General by inviting him to be a keynote speaker at the 1996 convention, where he repaid it with a race-baiting speech that could have been written and delivered by the DNC. You might call it Powell’s “Riverside Church speech.” By now, Powell’s race-baiting sounds like a broken record. His message to the GOP amounts to, ‘Promote ever more incompetent blacks, so that they can betray and destroy you and the country.’ (I could only find excerpts that fail to give the full flavor of Powell’s 1996 phillipic.)

The delegates, ever terrified of being painted as racists—never mind that Powell had just done exactly that—gave their beneficiary-tormentor a rousing ovation.

Republican leaders responded by continuing to indulge Powell, and he responded by continuing to stick the shiv in their backs.

Bush II made Powell Secretary of State; Powell responded by leaking like a sieve, badmouthing his boss to his friends in the Washington press corps, most notoriously Bob Woodward.

After all the GOP had done for Powell, it was perfectly in character that he would stab the party in the back, and openly support the John Doe calling himself “Barack Hussein Obama” in the 2008 and 2012 elections.

Having long ago squandered what little political and moral credibility he ever had, Powell still has the chutzpah to lecture the Party, as if he were a Republican! It’s 1996, all over again.

The first videotape below is limited to Powell’s attacks on the GOP, which Meet the Press helpfully identifies with a banner as “State of the Republican Party.”

At the beginning of the interview, the General had defended Defense Secretary nominee Chuck Hagel, which makes me wonder about Hagel more than any heap of negative op-eds. Just before this video begins, Meet the Press host, felon David Gregory, who is far from being my favorite leftwing propagandist, asks Powell the sort of question that Republicans should have asked him back in 1996, as in: Are you a Republican?

For a generation, the GOP has done exactly what Powell and leftwing political consultants demand it do, and that is why the Party is dying. It relentlessly reaches out to blacks and Hispanics, who take everything it has to give, demand yet more, and still denounce it, while promoting and voting for Democrats. Meanwhile, the GOP’s Middle American base, fed up with its continuing betrayal of it, increasingly stays home on Election Day, or makes its undervote count in the presidential race.

But Powell demands an even more radically leftwing Republican Party, one that embraces black and Hispanic voter fraud, Obamacare, even more wasteful education spending, open borders and global warming. He’s gotten out in front of the consultants! He will never lack for invitations from leftwing media stars for interviews in which can race-bait the GOP.

Note after the videos the praise Powell gets from my leftwing colleague, La Reyna. He earned that applause.

[An unloaded 21-gun salute to The Blaze.]

On the long tape below, at about 17:30 into the tape and a few seconds thereafter, Powell makes his allegiances clear; at about 18:30, the race-political fireworks begin.

Colin Powell: My Republican Party is Doomed for Failure! January 13, 2013 Journal de la Reyna

The former Secretary of State Colin Powell makes the case for a swift change in the Republican Party. He is frustrated with Republican leaders tolerating the extremism within its ranks.

Powell nailed the former Alaskan governor and conservative agitator for the president being a “shuck and jiving” leader comment. Powell also nailed John Sununu about President Barack Obama being “lazy.”

Powell’s dire warnings will fall on deaf ears with the notion of race, climate change, gun control, immigration reform and healthcare. Republicans already signal that they’re prepared to fight to the “bitter end” on the debt ceiling, austerity cuts, the president’s cabinet nominees and picks for federal court. They’re already plotting a rebound in the 2014 Midterm elections. Powell state that our country needs to work together in order to solve problems.

On Meet the Press, Powell talks to David Gregory about the situation with the Republican Party. Powell believes that Republicans stare down on minorities with such disdain. Yeah, he’s right! This will ring the bells of the conservative agitating media. Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Matt Drudge will layout the groundwork for the rest of the conservative extremist media!

Surviving Hurricane Sandy: A Report from Ground Zero: My New VDARE Column is Up!

A strip of businesses on Rockaway Beach Boulevard, between 113th and 115th Streets in Rockaway Park, that burned down on the night of October 29th, when Hurricane Sandy hit. Although the area is four miles and four communities away from Far Rockaway, in a huge spread, New York’s self-identified “hometown paper,” the Daily News, misidentified the strip as being in “Far Rockaway.” Although Sandy hit the white West End the worst, the media sought to depict black Far Rockaway’s East End and nearby black neighborhoods as having suffered the worst.

The looted Key Food supermarket, on Beach 87th Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard in the Hammels area of Rockaway Beach, which the MSM also misidentified as “Far Rockaway.”

Stephen Essen, of NPR’s WNYC, who took the above shot of the Hammels Key Food, misidentified it "Far-Rockaway-after-Hurricane-Sandy" and as “Shops in Far Rockaway boarded up and closed after the hurricane,” even though the store, which was not just damaged by the hurricane but looted, is over three miles east of Far Rock, in Rockaway Beach. I immediately recognized the store from the photograph, but have since walked by there, as well. When I walked by two weeks ago, heading to the Stop ‘n Shop around Beach 70th and Rockaway Beach Blvd., the Key Food looked just as it does in the photograph. (The Stop ‘n Shop apparently suffered no damage, and was re-opened only days after Sandy.) Since then, I have seen workmen or contractors on its roof, but do not know its present condition.

I do know that on Wednesday, January 9, I saw 11 massive generators on flatbeds, each weighing at least two tons, one welded to its own trailer, two smaller, perhaps one-ton generators with trailer, a massive van, smaller van, and a couple of large “PODS” storage containers in the parking lot of the Key Food on Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 105th Street. This got me all excited, and while just about everything is still there, save for one of the one smaller generators, I have never seen any workers and, as far as I can see, peering into the store, no rehab work has been done.
One day shy of three months after Hurricane Sandy hit, the West End still has no supermarkets.

The Stix family lives fifty yards from the Atlantic Ocean in the West End of Queens’ Rockaway Peninsula, which was more or less Ground Zero for Hurricane Sandy on October 29 2012. We stayed, and were cut off from the world for a month. Many thanks to the VDARE.com readers who expressed concern, and especially those who donated to VDARE.com’s tax-deductible Nicholas Stix Still Alive and Well, But Extremely Stubborn Project. What follows is a personal and political report of a society under traumatic stress.

Today!—the Rockaways. Tomorrow!—America…

The New York Review of Books has just published a Bizarro World essay on Hurricane Sandy’s impact on The Rockaways, by one Michael Greenberg, who says he grew up here. There was no crime, and the black cut-throats from the local city housing projects were merely the victims of (presumably racist) neglect by the city. [Occupy the Rockaways! January 10, 2013. The headline is a reference to Greenberg’s claim that some the relief worker volunteers “had been participants in last year’s Occupy Wall Street protest.”]…

Brothers charged in violent Raleigh home invasion
January 7; updated January 8
WRAL

RALEIGH, N.C. — Two brothers face multiple charges, including first-degree burglary and attempted murder, in connection with an early-morning violent home invasion in Raleigh's Oakwood neighborhood in which a man was shot and his wife sexually assaulted.

Police found the man in his home in the 500 block of East Lane Street around 3:15 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from his wife who was able to escape to a neighbor's house for help.

"We woke up, and there were these men in our bedroom, and they wanted money. We gave them everything we had, and we didn't have enough," the wife said in the frantic call, released Monday evening.

She said the men were masked and were wearing black. At some point, she was able to get away.

"I ran out of the house screaming, and then I heard them shoot him," she said.

"We heard a blood-curdling scream and then pounding on our front door," neighbor Terry Iverson told WRAL News Monday. "She said someone had broken in and there were a couple of guys, and her husband had been shot."

Both victims were taken to WakeMed, where the wife was treated and later released. The extent of her husband's injuries and whether he was still at the hospital Monday evening were unclear. He is expected to survive.

Other neighbors reported hearing commotion outside their window and seeing someone leaving jumping from a window and running down a pathway behind the house.

Another neighbor reported an attempted break-in at his home, neighbors said, and was able to write down part of a license plate number.

A short time later, police arrested Jahaad Tariem Allah Marshall, 26, and Shabar Master Marshall, 16, after a high-speed chase when they crashed their car at the intersection of Wilmington and Rush streets.

Shabar Marshall was charged with one count of first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, one count of attempted murder and one count of first-degree forcible sex offense.

His brother was charged with one count of first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, one count of attempted murder, one count of attempted first-degree rape and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police are still investigating the case and ask that anyone with information that might help detectives to contact Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-4357 or go to the Crime Stoppers website.

And people wonder why we want to keep our guns. Seems you read about a home invasion somewhere in the Triangle every other day. The police can't protect you and your family when someone kicks in your door in the middle of the night. You and you alone are responsible for protecting your family and property.

Raleigh topping the headlines with robberies and shootings again this weekend. Like I said before the crime rate is shooting through the roof lately and it should be alarming to residents there. These home invasions across NC the past few weeks is getting to be much more common....scary thing. Hope the residents will recover from the trauma of all of this. They wont feel safe in their own homes again.

Two cases in NC in the last three weeks clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of a legally armed homeowner. Suspect came to house intending to do harm or steal and do harm. Suspect left headed to the morgue. Two people not charged by the DA because it was clear self defense. I will guarantee that if more cases like happen then these "home invasions" will go down. And, no, they're not all dope dealers ripping off other dope dealers.

Today I asked a coworker to attest to my character as part of the Durham requirement to get a pistol permit. He declined because he is morally opposed to firearms. Within minutes I easily found two other coworkers who agreed to help me.

The colleague who declined later asked me why I would want to have one. I tried to explain but I don't think he got it.

I just sent him a link to this story. Unfortunately, he probably still won't get it.

I'm guessing the person who got invaded and shot this morning gets it.

Crime happens everywhere, but the problem with a lot of upscale "historic" areas of homes is that usually (as others have mentioned), the crime areas are only a block or two away. You live that close, you put yourself at more risk.

"It could have been our home that was broken into with a loaded gun pointed at us"

I have found that in most cases when a homeowner takes the time to think about that situation you just posed they make a couple of decisions: 1) Be aware of what is "normal" around your house and what is not; 2) Take just long enough to assess the situation and make sure that the intruder isn't a family member; 3) Aim for center mass and, finally, call 911. Not the other way around. You don't ask for age and ID when someone is breaking into your house with a gun. The police can do all that afterwards when they ID them.

“This is the reason why towns and cities should absolutely set a curfew.”

Most towns do but they're called "youth protection laws" or some other jabber. Now, tell me who are going to be the ones to enforce them? The Police? The average NC town has about four to five officers working at a time, usually for a town with at least 15000 residents. If they start on one end of the town and work their way to the other end, how will they identify who is under 16? If the officer only stops and talks to about 10 people in a night shift then he's filled up most of his time between calls. The other 100 or so teens are still out walking around. Without adequate manpower and judges willing to prosecute parents, curfews are useless gestures.

"REMEMBER THE LATE EVE CARSON. THE PROBATIONERS THERE DID NOT DO THEIR JOB IS WHY THE CRIMINAL IN THAT CASE WAS OUT DOING CRIME AND KILLING"

I don't know why I'm even bothering here but...yes, I do remember Eve Carson and Miss Hedgepeth as well. First off there was not a "criminal" in that case...there were two men involved. Second, no matter how lax the probation officers were (and they were) it does not even factor into an excuse for the henious act of those two men. These are the lowest of criminal...those that care not a whit about lives or property or anything other than their own selfish wants. They don't care if they or those with them die in the commission of their crimes, much less victims.

Good luck with that. I've been involved in community efforts to open "dialogue" with minorities about crime and ended up being screamed at because someone dared to refer to all of us as a community and not the "(insert minority name here) community" and everybody else. Or yelled at about the need for "programs" and "opportunities" and being absolutely verbally lambasted for using the words "accountable" and "responsible". When the last thing you hear as you leave such a meeting is "You just can't understand!" then I fail to see where a "dialogue" will get anywhere. I still remain hopefully that one day that dialogue will exist.

Either way, the state of NC will end up spending more money on these low lifes.

Funny how WRAL will post headline stories about violent crimes such as this, but want to censor direct, real, to-the-point, and truth of the matter conversations between the very people who are out here falling victims to this population of our society. When you talk about crime, you talk about the roots of it... age, gender, race, socio/economics,etc. And one of the common denominators in this ascending number of cases is the race of the many suspects. Like it or not WRAL, these are valid issues of conversation. Stop being so gutless and let the people speak ...the very ones you aggresively shove your stories down our throats everyday without expecting aggresive responses. You news journalists wanna play big boy games then stop censoring big boy responses.

St. Louis: Is Antonio Andrews a Brazen Cop-Killer, or a Scapegoat? His Brother Says He was Railroaded

Murdered St. Louis Officer Norvelle Brown

Convicted cop-killer Antonio Andrews, 2007: Was he railroaded, or is he just another Alibi Ike?

On Friday, I received the following comment, regarding the Norvelle Brown-Antonio Andrews murder case.

alphonzo andrews said...

I am the brother of Antonio Andrews, my name is Alphonzo. My brother was used as a scapegoat in this case, in the state of Missouri there is a thing called make it up as you go judicial system. Now im going to be brief with what I have to say because at this point the idiots downtown have figured they got away with one for the "dummies in blue". The one thing that's needs to be pointed out is that the cop was a dirty cop. When the situation occured it was said that he was chasing my brother but how can u shoot someone in the back by their right shoulder blade when you have to turn around to shoot them and my brother is right handed. That would mean my brother is a magician. Not only did he not shoot him but there was no bullet and there wasn't any dna or prints on the gun from my brother. In open court when that was brought up, the idiotic prosecutor suggested to jury to defy the evidence proving my brother didn't touch or fire a weapon because and I quote "this is not an episode of CSI", and the even bigger idiot judge allowed it. I thought DNA, GSR, FINGERPRINTS were things that werw suppose to convict and exonerate individuals but MISSOURI stricks again they seemed to change the standars for a cop murder. If it weren't a cop we wouldn't be discussing a 15 year old kid being railroaded. We have cops or "hossas" as I call em kill people by drunk driving or shooting and they get of w/o a so much as a scratch. Petty and pitiful this city/state has the worst justice system ....#theworstever

I responded that night, as follows:

Dear Mr. Andrews,

I had never heard the term “make-it-up-as-you-go” criminal justice, but it’s a good one. We have something like that in New York City, too, though I’m not in a position to say which system is worse. I would imagine that under today’s criminal justice conditions, people from a lot of cities and states could make a compelling argument that their jurisdiction is the most corrupt. Kind of like arguments about which state is the most politically corrupt: New Jersey, Louisiana, Illinois…?

I do not want innocent men railroaded for crimes they didn’t commit. I have a particular animus towards witnesses who change their testimony. I’ve previously seen this happen, where witnesses were willing to perjure themselves, in order to get killers off, and to protect themselves from snitch justice. If you are right, your brother’s case would be the first I’ve encountered (but surely not the last), where someone perjured himself by changing his story, in order to get an innocent man convicted.

If you can send me any links to printed material about the court case documenting the statements (e.g., by the prosecutor) and forensic/ballistics and corruption issues (re Norvelle Brown in particular, and the SLPD in general) you raised, I would appreciate it, and would copy and paste it at this blog.

With that said, however, it occurs to me that Officer Norvelle Brown is still dead, and did not die of a heart attack.

You claim that Officer Brown was “dirty.” What proof do you have of that? And let’s say, just for argument’s sake, that he was dirty. Would that somehow change the fact that he was murdered, or would it somehow make this a case, in your mind, of justifiable homicide? You want me to be extremely careful about facts, morality, and law, where your brother is concerned, but seem a bit less rigorous, where policemen’s lives are concerned.

I look forward to reading your response.

Sincerely,

Nicholas Stix

The ball is in Alphonzo Andrews’ court.
