My Dead Friends Don’t Always Drink Beer… Man Shot by Houston Police in Funeral Home Over a Can of Beer

By Nicholas Stix

Yesiree, Houston has become a very interesting, vibrant place. According to the 2010 Census, it now numbers 2,099,451 people, only 25.6 percent of whom are non-Hispanic whites. It’s 23.7 percent black, and 6.0 percent Asian, which leaves 44.7 percent something else. It’s officially 43.8 percent Hispanic, but the rate of Hispanic population growth (16.6 percent) more than doubled the rate of overall population growth (7.5 percent) from 2000-2010. That means that Hispanics are pushing out non-Hispanics.

SOUTH HOUSTON, Texas –

A witness says a Friday police involved shooting at a funeral home was all over a can of beer.

The witness told KPRC Local 2 that the shooting victim, Jerome Barrera, Jr., 25, wanted to place a beer can inside the casket.

The family said no and the witness said things quickly got out of hand.

The shooting happened at South Houston Funeral Home in the 1500 block of South Highway 3 about 4:15 p.m. Friday.

South Houston police said when officers confronted Barrera, he turned around and pointed a gun in the air.

The [sic] Barrera was shot and wounded in the chest. He was treated at the scene before he was taken to Herman Memorial Southeast Hospital.

[Some comments follow. I think some folks are being too hard on the shootee for what I--but clearly not the grieving family--find a touching gesture.]

The family did not want the beer, this knob insisted thereby disrespecting the family then pulls a gun on police, to bad the police did not spend one more cartridge and finish the job.

The funeral was for some loser killed while stealing from someone's car last Sunday with two accomplices. It would not surprise me at all if Jerome Barrera was the 'one that got away' when this guy was killed and Jesus Alaniz was arrested.

Welcome to the United States of America. A place that we grew up thinking was the best nation in the world, but as we got older, we realized it is full of complete idiots.

And if you don't fit into the "we" part of that statement, then you're probably in the "idiot" part. Kinda hard for me to say I'm "proud" to be American these days.

If someone said, "Look, there is a dead bird" this guy would turn his head upward looking all over the sky saying, "where? where? where?"
