Was it the black panthers or John Lewis' violent group, "the student non-violent coordinating committee," that extorted Jews into handing over a synagogue, on threat of mass murder? What we can be sure of, is that google will lie about it, either way!

Some sources say it was the black panthers, while others say it was sncc, which under John Lewis' leadership switched from being committed to non-violence to being committed to ultra-violence. However, we can be sure that google is guilty in both cases.

"there is no known direct link or collaboration between the black panther party (of the U.S.) and a Jewish synagogue in massachusetts. however, the term 'black panthers' also refers to an Israeli protest movement composed of second-generation Jewish immigrants from north africa and the middle east. additionally, there is evidence of black panther party members having a position of solidarity with the palestinian cause. a new synagogue project in massachusetts is working to build an inclusive community for people from many backgrounds, including Jews of color."

"the claim that the student nonviolent coordinating committee (sncc) demanded Jews hand over their synagogue is false.

"the claim likely originates from a misinterpretation or distortion of the 'black manifesto' issued in 1969 by James Forman at the national black economic development conference (nbedc). the manifesto demanded that white Christian churches and Jewish synagogues pay reparations for their historical role in perpetuating slavery and systemic racism. it specifically called for a percentage of the organizations' total income to be given to a new organization, the nbedc, to fund black-led economic development programs.

"the manifesto was directed at the institutions as a whole, not specifically asking for the physical buildings to be handed over. the demands were controversial at the time and led to significant debate within both black and Jewish communities regarding black-Jewish relations and the role of religious institutions in racial justice and reparations.
