ajw host Sean Fitzgerald did an excellent job here on Timothy Bohler, but not as well on bronx da Darcel Clark. On october 18, 2016, sgt. Hugh Barry encountered 66-year-old, racist, black, "emotionally disturbed person," Deborah Danner in her bronx apartment. Danner was well known to the new york city police department, whose officers had had to deal with her derangement numerous times before.
At first, Danner, who was buck naked, brandished a scissors. Barry talked her into handing over the scissors, and thought he was out of the woods. He was talking her out of her bedroom, when she saw a baseball bat, grabbed it, and aimed it at his head.
It was kill, or be killed. Sgt. Barry decided that it was not a good day to die. He shot Danner twice in the torso, killing her. Barry performed cpr, but she was a goner, which was fit and proper.
A couple of reporters at the new york daily news, hardly a pro-cop rag, looked it up in their copies of the new york city police academy's examination, and determined that Sgt. Hugh Barry had done exactly what the exam called for. The "book" (still) permitted refusal-to-die incidents on the part of [White] policemen. And yet, Darcel Clark, mayor Bill de Blasio, and police commissioner James O'Neill all ignored the book. Clark got a grand jury to indict Sgt. Ham Sandwich for murder. Fortunately, the judge acquitted Sgt. Barry in a bench trial, but Darcel Clark had destroyed his life.
No cop can risk going before a bronx jury; they're the most racist in the country. The four racist black thugs who sought to rob Bernie Goetz on a mid-day manhattan train during Christmas week, 1984, later sued him, and were awarded a $140 million verdict by a bronx jury. (Why, if the crime was committed in manhattan, did the perps get to sue their victim in the bronx? I have never seen a credible explanation for that development.)
In 1986, Larry Davis shot nine cops who had gone to arrest him at his sister's apartment to pieces, came out without a scratch, and was cheered by the neighborhood. A bronx jury acquitted Davis of all charges. Oh, what's that, you asked? Why were the cops trying to arrest Davis? Larry Davis was a serial-killer, who had murdered and robbed six drug dealers.
Davis was tried... and acquitted, tried... and acquitted, tried... and acquitted, tried... and acquitted, tried... and acquitted, and tried and convicted. The sixth time was the charm. He was shipped to prison upstate, where another prisoner stabbed him to death. (Presumably, Davis' killer was a friend or relative of someone whom Davis had murdered.)
During the late 1980s, when I was a social worker, I got a nice, retired black lady who was willing to adopt two of my foster kids, sisters who were about 8 and nine years old, respectively. I took the A train all the way to the end at far rockaway, where Mrs. W., who had earlier lived in brooklyn, met me. There were some skels hanging around in front of the Mott Avenue station, of whom Mrs. W said, "They must be... from the bronx."
