His name at birth was King Wallis Vidor. His paternal grandfather, Károly Vidor was a Hungarian immigrant. Haven't yet been able to find an explanation for the name.
It's not totally uncommon as a name. You've probably seen the actor King Donovan, who was in INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS and a million other things (and was married to Imogene Coca). "Royal" turns up occasionally also as a name (as with the prolific character actor Royal Dano), though they sometimes shorten it to "Roy."
I always saw the name and wondered,"what's the deal with that name?"
