Fun Fact aaaaaaaabout Ewan MacColl--direct quote from wikipedia:
"in the early 1950s he penned 'The Ballad of Ho Chi Minh' and 'The Ballad of Stalin' for the British Communist Party.
Joe Stalin was a mighty man and a mighty man was he,
He led the Soviet people on the road to victory,
All through the revolution he fought at Lenin's side,
And they made a combination till the day that Lenin died.
When asked about the song in a 1985 interview, he said that it was "a very good song" and that "it dealt with some of the positive things that Stalin did.'"
ReplyDeleteJust bad luck that McColl was edged out of the top 10 by inferior songs such as these, lol :
1 "Too Young" Nat King Cole with Les Baxter
2 "Because of You" Tony Bennett with Percy Faith
3 "How High the Moon" Les Paul and Mary Ford
4 "Come On-a My House" Rosemary Clooney
5 "Be My Love" Mario Lanza with Ray Sinatra and Jeff Alexander
6 "On Top of Old Smoky" The Weavers and Terry Gilkyson with Vic Schoen
7 "Cold, Cold Heart" Tony Bennett with Percy Faith
8 "If" Perry Como with Mitchell Ayres
9 "The Loveliest Night of the Year" Mario Lanza
10 "Tennessee Waltz" Patti Page.

I'd never heard of this person before--one of many. I'll probably forget about him just as fast, not that it wasn't interesting,in a way.
