HE GETS AROUND:nEGRO,FROM ATLANTA,TRAVELED TO ARKANSAS TO MURDER A mEXICAN,THEN SHUFFLED OFF TO GRAND RAPIDS WITH THE INTENTION OF ESCAPING,BUT WAS CAPTURED INSTEAD BY U.S. MARSHALLS.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (KATV) —
An investigation by the Arkansas State Police has led to the arrest of an Atlanta man in connection with the death of a man found at an Interstate 40 rest area near Ozark, Arkansas, in January.

Darius Simmons, 30, was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Friday, January 31, 2025.

He faces charges of first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, theft of property, and failure to provide information of an accident involving injury in the death of German Portillo-Batres, 59, of Richmond, Texas.

Portillo-Batres was discovered lying on the shoulder of the rest stop access road by a motorist at approximately 1:45 a.m. on January 4, 2025.

The Ozark Police Department requested the Arkansas State Police's Criminal Investigation Division to investigate the case.

Felony arrest warrants for Simmons were issued based on information gathered by special agents.

GRA:What'd Simmons do,drop his ID on the ground in Ozark? Maybe he was wanted in Atlanta already(theory),but good police work, nonetheless.
