“8:30 p.m. (cbs noise) with high winds driving the flames, a fast-moving wildfire exploded to more than 9,200 acres near the los angeles county community of Castaic wednesday — prompting mandatory evacuation orders for tens of thousands of people.
“the Hughes fire broke out around 10:45 a.m. near Castaic lake, off lake Hughes road just north of Castaic reservoir road, before growing to 500 acres within an hour, authorities said. by 12:30 p.m., less than two hours after first being reported, it had ripped through a total of 3,407 acres, according to the california department of forestry and fire protection, or cal fire.
“by 6 p.m., the fire had more than doubled in size — spreading to an estimated 9,200 acres, according to the la county fire department. firefighters say that they have not discovered any burned structures and that while the weather conditions were driving the blaze, they were not as severe as the wildfires from earlier this month. however, angeles national forest chief Robert Garcia stressed that the conditions were still critical.
“‘the first responders are doing great work to contain this fire. certainly, we are not out of the woods yet,’ cal fire chief Joe Tyler said.
“la county fire chief Anthony Marrone said roughly 4,000 personnel were sent to Castaic to battle the wildfire.
“the unincorporated community of Castaic is located in northwest los angeles county, about 15 miles northwest of Santa Clarita and just alongside the angeles national forest.”

NEW FIRES IN L.A.;STRANGE THING--THEY'RE ALL GIVEN NAMES THESE DAYS--JUST THE WRONG ONES. NAME THEM FOR THE POLITICIANS WHO FAILED THEIR CONSTITUENCY.
(BBC)Five new fires have erupted in southern California ahead of US President Donald Trump's visit to the state.
The blazes - named Laguna, Sepulveda, Gibbel, Gilman and Border 2 - flared up on Thursday in the counties of Los Angeles, San Diego, Ventura and Riverside.
Firefighters have made progress in bringing the 10,000-acre Hughes Fire in Los Angeles under control, containing it by 36% since it broke out on Wednesday.
Fires have devastated the US state over the last few weeks, with the Palisades and Eaton fires scorching a combined total of more than 37,000 acres and killing at least 28 people.
GRA:Since when do fires get names? Bizarre.
But if they want to do such a thing,I have better monikers for these fires:"Karen","Gavin","Newsom","Bass". There are plenty more Democrats in L.A.(city council types, etc) that can be memorialized with a fire name,I'm sure. The fires could also be named, the "Newsom Jr." blaze, the "Gavin III" fire etc.
News reporter: "The 'Newsom' fire has killed 15 people so far, while the 'Bass' fire destroyed much of Malibu," would be a much better way to identify the infernos,in my humble opinion.
