This indeed looks like the army of an imperial power, one with military bases all over the world. Like the Greeks and, later, the Romans, they are running out of their native military stock and are paying non-Greeks, non-Romans, non-Americans to fill out their ranks. What the American taxpayers get out of this remains to be answered. But if nobody asks....
