ATR: Lots of DPS troopers are good old boys from rural parts of Texas.

They grow up hunting deer, quail, geese and feral hogs.

I wouldn't mess with a Texas DPS trooper.

Besides, many of them have to patrol lonely highways in the Panhandle and down by the border.  Many times the nearest back-up can be 50 miles or more away.  That's why they patrol with AR-15s.
