So, he falls below the poverty line and as a result his kids become eligible for "free" school meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
And because the kids are "poor" they can write treacly essays about "overcoming" adversity, and thereby gain admission to UT Austin or Texas A&M via race-based scholarships.

The dogs got loose somehow. They always say that. Dogs guarding a safe house with drug stash they mean.
