There was a show on ABC almost 50 years ago called HOT L BALTIMORE (lasted a season)about a rundown dive and the characters in it.The letter E in HOTEL was burned out and never replaced because it cost money.
But now the city itself could be spelled the same way--B LT MOR --ready for the wrecking ball.
I was a tyke(relatively speaking),but I remember this show being advertised as a "risque comedy."
For some reason it came to mind.

Many big American cities have a nice downtown, but just go a few blocks beyond the downtown center and watch out.
